Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Extend (初音ミク -Project DIVA- extend?) is a 2011 rhythm video game developed by SEGA and Crypton Future Media, Inc. for the PlayStation Portable. It is an extension of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd and is the final game in the series to be released for the PlayStation Portable.
It was released exclusively in Japan on 10 November 2011, after it was first announced in April of the same year.
Gameplay[]
The overall gameplay is identical to that of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd, even featuring songs from the said game with their rhythm game charts unchanged.
One of the newest inclusions for Extend are Challenge Items, which boosts up gameplay difficulty. These new Challenge Items are "Cool & Fine", which only ratings Cool and Fine will be registered while Safe and Sad are registered as Worse and reward twice the DIVA Points when clearing a song, and "Survival", which causes the Life Gauge to never increase or recover and rewards four times the DIVA points when clearing a song.
Differences from Project DIVA 2nd[]
While Extend is essentially an extension to 2nd, there are some noticable differences between the two games:
- The main menu background is slightly changed and the background music is also different.
- The difficulty ratings now have their own highlighted colors during gameplay instead of all being light-blue (Easy = Green, Normal = Blue, Hard = Purple, Extreme = Red).
- The star rating for the Extreme difficulty of "The Intense Voice of Hatsune Miku" is now colored red rather than white like in Project DIVA 2nd.
- More stages are added to Edit Mode, those stages being based on the new PVs featured in this game.
- Some Help Items are removed and replaced with the afforementioned Challenge Items. Removed Help Items include "Combo Support System", "Combo Follow System", and "Rescue System". The remaining Help Items also drop the word "System" from their names.
- The results screen now has new animations for characters after clearing a song in Free Play rather than still poses with choreography from a song like in Project DIVA 2nd. Animations from the first Project DIVA return after clearing a song in Edit Mode.
- More Room Themes and Character Events are added to the DIVA Room.
Song List[]
There are a total of 40 songs available in Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Extend. 37 songs (9 new and 28 old) are obtained normally by playing through the game and three songs are only available through Edit Mode. Much of the returning songs are from Project DIVA 2nd which also include the DLC songs for that game. Other returning songs come from Project DIVA Arcade and the bonus songs and DLC packs for the first Project DIVA game. The songs from Project DIVA's DLC packs are given brand new PVs.
