Hatsune Miku Project Mirai 2 (初音ミク Project mirai 2?) is a 2013 rhythm game released for the Nintendo 3DS on 28 November 2013 in Japan. It is the sequel to Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai and part of the Project Mirai series, a spin-off of the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series.
Gameplay[]
A sequel to the first Project Mirai game, it continues its use of the "Nendoroid-style": super deformed versions based on the Nedoroid figure style from Japanese manufacturer Good Smile Company in which characters have heads that are three times the normal size and not proportionate to the body.
Rhythm Game[]
Rhythm gameplay for Project Mirai 2 is given a major overhaul from the previous Project Mirai, dropping the Rhythm Circle for gameplay similar to that of the Project DIVA series. This includes the Melody Icons being perched on a moving line while a target window closes in on the icons while the player has to press the corresponding face button on the 3DS. The player's time accuracy will also be rated next to the timed icon, with ratings lifted directly from the Project DIVA series (Cool, Fine, Safe, Sad, Worse, and Wrong). As with previous games, there is a life guage that takes the form of a bar. Similar to Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Arcade, the player is given a blue safety bar for the first few seconds of the song. The life guage will deplete if the player gets Sad, Worse, or Wrong ratings, and should the gauge deplete completely, the song will immediately end. Clearing a song will reward players with Mirai Points, the game's currency, which they can use to buy Outfits, Room Items, etc.
Project Mirai 2 features two different styles of gameplay to take advantage of the 3DS functionality: Tap Mode and Button Mode. Tap Mode requires the player to tap up to three different panels that are colored red, blue, and yellow using the stylus. Red is featured on all difficulties while blue and yellow are featured on higher difficulties. Additional Melody Icons for this mode include a Hold where panel must be held from the beginning Melody Icon until the thickened line reaches its end icon. There is also rainbow variant where the players must swirl on the corresponding panel while in a hold for additional points. Lastly, there are Arrow Markers where the player must tap and slide in the icons specified direction regardless of where its done on the panel. Additional bonus can be obtained from Arrow Markers as long as the stylus stays on the panels while Arrow Markers are successfully chained. Button Mode features gameplay familiar to that of its aforementioned parent series. The Control Pad can be used in this mode as a substitute for the face buttons, which is recommended for songs with fast chains. It is also possible to use the panels on the bottom screen in Button Mode. Hold also appears in this mode and requires players to hold down on the corresponding face button until the thickened line reaches the end of its ending Melody Icon. This Hold also has its own rainbow variant where the player has to spin the Circle Pad while in a hold for additional points. For Normal and Hard difficulty, Dual Lines involve an additional outside line appearing and requires players to use the face buttons and Control Pad at the same time.
Like previous games, after the player clears a song, they will be taken to a results screen and be ranked on their performance with the rank "SS" being the best rank to achieve. Ranking based on the final score obtained in the song returns from the first Project Mirai.
For PVs, "Nedoroid PVs" make a return for a majority of the game's songs while other songs feature their original PVs with included 3D effects, in tune with the 3DS' 3D function. Returning from the first Project Mirai is the Vocal Change option that allows players to change the vocals for specific songs. This is much more prominent in the song "Piano × Forte × Scandal", where the KAITO verison has him performing a different choreography from the MEIKO, Miku, and Rin versions, as well as returning song "Watashi no jikan", which has different lyrics for the Rin and Len versions.
Your Room[]
The "Your Room" feature makes a return and also received a significant upgrade. Switching between characters' rooms and changing how the room looks return, but now it is located in an area known as "Mirai Town". The characters' rooms now act as apartments as indicated when a doorbell is heard and the character makes their way down to the lobby. Going to the lobby will enable short cutscenes of other characters interacting with the players chosen character (e.g. characters may offer gifts, GUMI gives tips and advice on the game's features). Some returning features for "Your Room" include the microphone feature that allows players to interact with characters, and the alarm clock feature, now featuring cutscenes of a character sleeping when the alarm is in use. New features include giving characters Mirai Points as an allowance and viewing a log of how allowance is spent, giving characters foods, remodeling the room with items that can be purchased in the game's Mirai Mall, and small cutscenes can occur when there are Room Items present.
One of the game's locations, Mirai Estates, will allow players to change their character's room, most of which are free. One room however, the Penthouse, will cost Mirai Points to move in for a brief period and additional Mirai Points to extend the stay. Another area that costs Mirai Points to stay at is the Mirai Resort Villa. Moving to the Villa will have the chosen character switch to a swimsuit Outfit and special cutscenes will occur when staying there. The area map will also change featuring much of the other areas, albeit placed in different spots.
There is also the minigame "PuyoPuyo 39!" that players can have their character take part in. It is based off the PuyoPuyo franchise and has the players character face off against five other characters.
AR Station[]
AR functionality returns for this game, including much of the same features from the previous game such as performing supported songs in the game and taking photos of characters with the 3DS' camera. More AR cards for supported songs are included and it is now possible to change the size of the characters.

It is also possible to switch outfits between characters of the same gender (e.g. Rin's Amatsu Kitsune head on Miku's Electric Love body; Len's Aku no Meshitsukai head on KAITO's Piano × Forte × Scandal body). Additionally, specific Outfits will also give players the option of changing the colors of specific pieces of fabric.
