PuyoPuyo 39! (ぷよぷよ39!?) is a minigame that first appeared in Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2. It is directly based on the franchise of the same name.
Gameplay[]
Like PuyoPuyo, players have to connect four Puyos of the same color together to clear them off their character's board, doing so will cause Trash Puyo to drop on the opponent's board. Taking advantage of the Nintendo 3DS' two screens, the top screen features the game itself while the bottom screen features the player's character performing a live show. The opponents will have a preselected song play when going up against them. There are four difficulties to choose from in the minigame's Settings: Super Easy, Easy, Normal, and Tough. Super Easy will only 3 colors for all rounds, Easy will have 3 colors for rounds 1-3 and 4 for rounds 4-5, Normal will have 3 colors for rounds 1-2, 4 for rounds 3-5, and a speed-up for round 5, and Tough will have all 4 colors for all 5 rounds with a speed-up for round 5.
Strategic placement of the Puyo can cause chain combos to occur leading to much more Trash Puyo to be dropped into the opponent's board. When chain combos happen, the characters make brief appearances shouting out spell names with the live show also becoming more flashy. The game ends when the Trash Puyo completely block off the drop-off spot. If the player wins they move to the next opponent, but if they lose the game is over. The player will also be graded based on their performance against their opponent and will receive an overall grade after defeating all five.
Clearing this minigame with Hatsune Miku or KAITO will unlock Outfits based on characters from the PuyoPuyo franchise, Arle and Dark Prince. Using the Arle Outfit when playing the minigame will cause Miku's spells to be switched out for those used by Arle in the Puyo Puyo series.
The minigame is available in single player and two-player mode. For two player mode, the other player must have their own copy of Project Mirai 2 or Project Mirai DX to play, and it is possible to change the BGM for the match.

Trivia[]
- Overall gameplay for the minigame is based on the "Tsu" ruleset of gameplay, which was first introduced in Puyo Puyo Tsu.
- If Miku manages to hit a 7-Chain while wearing her Arle Outfit, instead of using Arle's final spell "Bayoe~n", she instead exclaims the spell name "Dayo". This references the name of her derivative Mikudayo.
- Rin and Len's spell names for Chains 3-5 are in reference to their Append voicebanks (Power, Warm, and Sweet for Rin; Power, Cold, Serious for Len).
- Assets from Project Mirai could be found in the code for "Puyo Puyo Chronicle", implying this minigame may have been used as a test for development of said game.
